In 2022, HBO and the team at Turner Sports were embarking on their first soccer package, and it was for the US national teams. Looking to do something new, not rooted in traditional sports package conventions, we were asked to think outside the box and break the rules.

Creating a broadcast package that is unconventional, unexpected, and yet still feels like it represents America in its entirety.

A RECONIZABLE COMPONENT

As exciting as it is to be unexpected, it still helps to include some iconography from soccer that can help even a casual viewer find their footing within the sport. For us, that was the all-important soccer ball.

Each league and tournament has its own ball, a ball that can represent the sport for hundreds of miles away. IT was important to us, and to Turner, that the Ball be something spectacular that could work as our main transportation device.

It needs to work on TV and in the real world!

When we’re building a package like this, that will find its way into the real world not just through a television set, but also in OOH marketing, we always test our designs to make sure they’re feeling captivating and legible

Launching on HBO and TNT Sports in the Winter of 2023, the USSF package transformed a soccer broadcast package into an art piece to behold.
